Cows in trouble early
Brown’s Well Cows put
up a good fight against
Loxton Siberians, but
eventually went down
by 62 runs in the last
round of Riverland Turf
Combined Cricket before
the split on Saturday.
The Cows were good with
the ball, and if not for a terrific
innings of 92 from Josh Deren,
would have been right in the
Deren’s innings, along with
31 from Josh Zdanowicz and
20 to Jake Albrecht saw the
Siberians post 8/176, despite
a terrific bowling performance
from Brian Hampel (4/36).
The Cows lost wickets regu-
larly in their chase, with three
batsmen top scoring on 19.
Connor Fenwick took 5/17
for the Siberians to rip through
Wunkar defeated Waikerie
Gold by six wickets to
book its place in the top six.
Wunkar was in slight trou-
ble at 4/55 chasing Waikerie
Gold’s 74, but composed
innings from Lewis Cregan
(16no) and Brad Pontt (17no)
saw the Bulldogs get home.
Earlier, Jordan Hentschke
took five wickets to skittle the
home team out in just 17 overs.
Damien Fridd top scored
with 17 for Gold, while Todd
Pontt took 3/28 for Wunkar.
Loxton Bengals made
light work of Monash on
Saturday, winning by eight
The Maroons made 96, with
Matt Starkey reaching 20 runs.
John Fisher led the way for
the Bengals with 4/14.
Brad Walter (43no) and
Michael Gutsche (39) were
best with the bat for the
Bengals as they chased their
target in 22 overs.
Berri won the right to com-
pete in the Riverland A
grade cricket competition with
a five-wicket win over Gerard
Brad Rosenzweig scored an
unbeaten century in Berri’s

Local youngster Connor Fenwick had a
remarkable game of cricket on Saturday,
finishing with 5/17 after Loxton Siberians
took on Brown’s Well Cows in Riverland
Turf Combined Seniors.
Fenwick, 15, also plays for Loxton’s under 16
side and said he was “pretty rapt” with his bowling
performance on Saturday.
“I am not going to lie, I was pretty happy,” he
“That is my best bowling yet.”
The leg-spinner said he was enjoying his time
out on the pitch this season and credited junior
“I am loving it. I have been playing cricket since
I could remember,” he said.
“I work hard, well I think I work hard anyway.
“I have had pretty good guidance through Josh
Deren at the club. He has helped me a lot through-
out the year.”
The Loxton Siberians side is filled with young-
sters this year, including Llayton Biele, Hayden
Nitschke, Jarrad Lynch, Will Lehmann and Josh
“(The other players) have really lifted as well,”
“It has been a year of improvements for the club.”
Riverland Turf Cricket Association president
Brian Lynch said it was a “promising” time for
“Loxton has had strong junior numbers for
years,” he said.
“That is why Loxton is so strong.”

Renmark makes light work of Loxton
Renmark secured a finals spot
and kept alive its top two chances
with a big week of Riverland
division one basketball last week.
The Steamers drew with second-placed
Barmera on Tuesday night, before knock-
ing off top team Loxton by 17 points two
Craig Seekamp starred for the Steamers
against the Supercats, opening the night
with a pair of triples and going on to
score 12 points.
James McLeod scored 10 points as
Renmark led at every quarter to secure a
Adam Proud led the way for Loxton
with 10 points, while Che Lange scored
Waikerie bounced back from an eight-
point loss to Berri on Tuesday night
to defeat Barmera by 10 on Thursday.
It was the Warriors’ first win of the sea-
son and was led by a game-high 21 points

change, with Luke Exton scoring eight
Dillon Millard (12 points) and Nick
Morrow (11) led the way for Barmera,
which will need to regroup ahead of

women’s basketball on Thursday.
The Steamers pulled away gradual-
ly, with Sonja Modlinski (11 points)
and Abby Perry (10 points) leading the
Jackie Dahlitz worked hard to keep

with 10 points, while Marlee George (six
points) battled all night.
Waikerie defeated Barmera by nine
The result made it two losses on the
trot for the Lakers, after they lost to top

Another close and exciting game saw the Eagles
beat the Strikers by just one run.
Cobdogla’s Jesse Passmore came home on a
four-bagger, while teammate Tracey Liddell picked
up a double play.
Both sides fielded well, with Loxton’s Patty
Fournaros-Carney putting her body on the line for
Jo Gregory and Bron Smith played well for
Cobdogla, while Mikayla Hammerstein and Cara
Venning battled hard for Loxton.
