THE KeranVillis STORY.
Can you help our friend?
Agroup of people is
calling on the Loxton
community to help
support their good friend
Keran was diagnosed with
osteosarcoma (bone cancer) last year,
at the age of 43.
The single mother of three
underwent surgery to remove the
tumour, followed by aggressive
chemotherapy treatment which
required her to spend six months in
the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Unfortunately the treatment was
unsuccessful and another tumour
was discovered in her hip, where
amputation of her left leg was the
only option. Keran recently started
another round of treatment in
"When Keran was diagnosed with
cancer in early 2014, the journey that
the family had to embark on was not
only a challenge to say the least, but
then became a financially draining
process on them all," said Keran
Villis Support Group member Carol
"But, Keran was not going to let
the cancer get the better of her.
"Instead of becoming bitter, she
chose to live each day to the fullest
and remained positive through
months of chemo with no change
to her condition, the pain, suffering,
sickness and even the amputation of
her left leg.
"Keran battled on in hope that she
could live another day and spend it
with her family."
Mrs Kruschel has known Keran for
over 30 years, saying her friend was
"very generous". She described Keran
as a "dedicated" mother to three
children, having raised them on her
own for the past 15 years.
"She is a non-judgemental person,
she looks for the good in everybody.
She does not look back, she always
looks forward," Mrs Kruschel said.
"These beautiful traits make up my
friend Keran who is admired by her
friends and family."
Fundraising efforts to support the
Villis family through this tough time
have already been under way.
A number of events have been
planned for the coming months,
and organisers are already "greatly
moved" by the show of support from
"Keran is blessed to live in the
community of Loxton where there is
such a strong ethos of looking after
our own," Mrs Kruschel said.
"The support so far for Keran
has been generous, caring and
"We are so grateful for the support
and generosity of the community as
the funds raised will allow Keran and
her family to move forward without
financial constraint and to allow them
precious time together without this
"We are hoping this will create
lasting memories that will stay with
her children forever."
