Top local workers honoured
Local workers were among those
recognised at the 2014 Riverland and
Mallee Vocational Awards at the Berri
Resort Hotel on Friday night.
SA Water’s Josh Voigt, of Loxton, was the run-
ner-up Apprentice of the Year, behind Barmera
hairdresser Kara Bottrell.
Klaudia Gregurec was awarded the Australian
School-based Trainee of the Year Award for her
work at the Renmark Hotel.
Louise Beech, from Hotondo Homes, and
Emily Cocks, from the Renmark Hotel, were
presented with the 2014 Trainee of the Year
awards. Roy Grenfell, from Bookpurnong Fruits,
was runner-up Trainee of the Year.
Rotary Club of Berri’s Andrew Gower said
organisers were “very happy” with the turn out
to the event.
“We had about 220 people there on the night,
which is pretty close to capacity,” he said.
“The Rotary Club of Berri would like to

2014 Riverland and Mallee Vocational Awards
LOCALS RECOGNISED: Members of the Mantung Railway Centenary committee received top honours recently. The
celebrations, which were held on October 4, 2014, received the Event of the Year Award at Karoonda East Murray
Council’s Australia Day community breakfast, held at the Karoonda Football Clubrooms last month.
Pancake Night fun
The Loxton Anglican Church of
the Resurrection will host a night of
fun next month to recognise Shrove
The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Night event
will be held on February 17, from 6pm.
The cost is $10 per adult, $5 per child under
12 and $30 for families of five or more.
A range of savoury and sweet pancakes will
be available on the night.
Organisers said attendees can “eat as much
as you like”.

Loxton’s Pioneer Playground will
open to the public next weekend.
The official opening of the playground will
take place next weekend, Saturday, February
21, with locals invited to take part in the cel-

with the official opening to take place at 10am.

A silent auction is expected to be popular
