RIVERLANDERS visiting Adelaide next month
have the opportunity to see the world from a
different angle with the world's steepest 4WD ramp.
The Isuzu UTE Iron Summit is 45 degrees and
will be available for passenger rides at the Clipsal
500 and at the Let's Go Caravan & Camping
Lifestyle Show in Adelaide this February.
Isuzu Team D-MAX lead driver Jack Monkhouse
said the utes used in the stunts are close to standard
"The vehicles we drive on two wheels have a
couple of safety modifications like roll cages for
example but are really fairly standard," he said.
"The MU-X that climbs up and over the Iron
Summit at 45 degrees is completely standard.
"We have fitted Toyo Open Country ATII tyres to
it for maximum grip, but that's all."
Mr Monkhouse said visitors can choose to ride in
the MU-X SUV or, for those who are brave enough,
take a ride in one of the D-MAX utes driven on two
The Lets Go Caravan & Camping Lifestyle Show
will be held at the Adelaide Showground from
Thursday, February 19 to Monday, February 23.
The Clipsal 500 will run from Thursday,
February 26, to Sunday, March 1.
Take a ride on the wild side
Riverlanders have the chance to ride shotgun in
the ute along a 45 degree 4WD ramp, or sit in the

TWO Australian-built concept cars were
unveiled at an international auto show
held earlier this month.
General Motors (GM) unveiled two
cars designed and built in Port Melbourne
at the North American International Auto
Show; a Buick Avenir and a Chevrolet
GM said the Avenir, a large con-
cept sedan, represented a collaboration
between its design studio in Melbourne
and Buick's North American design cen-
tre in Michigan.
GM vice president Ed Welburn said
despite the physical distance, the design-
ers in Australia "understand the essence
of Buick's design language".
"Developing a concept between studios
on opposite sides of the earth is challeng-
ing, and the Avenir demonstrates how
Buick's strong design heritage linked the
teams with singular vision," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Bolt EV
concept, an all-electric vehicle with a
price tag starting at US $30,000, also
impressed at the show.
The Bolt features a roomy interior made
from lightweight materials including alu-
minium, magnesium and carbon fibre, and
includes a full-length frosted glass roof.
The lightweight slim seats are mounted
on exposed aluminium pedestals in what
Chevrolet describes as a "floating" effect,
while the centre console is suspended
from the front seats.
Drivers can chose operating modes such
as daily commuting or weekend cruising,
and the modes will adjust accelerator
pedal mapping, vehicle ride height and
The Bolt also features smartphone
access using a new 'Bolt EV Connect'
app, which has a range of features includ-
ing self-parking while the driver stands
outside the vehicle.
The Chevrolet Bolt concept car, built
in Australia, was unveiled at the North
American International Auto Show in
Detroit on Monday, January 12.
INSET: The Buck Avenir, also built and
designed in Port Melbourne.

The GS F sports sedan,
based on the mid-sized GS
luxury sedan, is powered by a
naturally-aspirated 5 litre V8
engine, producing 348kW and
527N of torque.
The sedan has an eight-
speed automatic gearbox with
and four driving modes.
Larger tyres, an upgraded
braking system and a rede-
signed suspension system
matches the car's enhanced
output, while the exteriors
feature classic Lexus styling.
The GS F sits notably lower
and wider than other models
and has front fender air out-
lets, carbon fibre spoiler and
19-inch alloy wheels.
Negotiations are under way
to bring the GS F to the local
market, but price points and
