Golfers faced hot, stormy conditions
for the Loxton Hotel sponsored Riverland
Ambrose, held at Loxton on the weekend.
Sixty players, including visitors from Adelaide,
Renmark and Barmera, braved shifting winds and
the occasional rain shower. Visitors from Adelaide,
Renmark, and Barmera were in attendance.
Winners Shaun Harris, Kym Rivett, Corey Forman
and Jamie Coombe scored a fine 58 gross, 14 under par.
The team were eight under on the front nine, with
birdies on the first eight holes then followed with
birdies on six others.
The captain made mention of the fine condition of
the course and thanked all responsible.
Meanwhile, in the Wednesday competition,
Malcolm Loxton won the men's with 41 points from
Terry Arndt on 36.

Loxton RSL has firmed
as a top two chance after
Barmera by six shots in
Bowls Riverland division
one Saturday pennants
on the weekend.
Barmera won more rinks
than RSL, but a big victory
to Steve Roberts over John
O'Brien helped RSL home.
Roberts had a great start to
the game, leading by six shots
after just four ends.
O'Brien picked up a three
and a four late in the game,
but it was not enough to close
the gap, with Roberts winning
Barmera's Dennis Wutke
was in front for most of his
clash with Tim Lehmann, but
trailed by one shot with an
Wutke picked up two on the
final end to win 18-17.
John Morena was also vic-
torious for Barmera, beating
Lew Westbrook by a shot,
while Geoff Huppatz came
from three down at the last
end to draw with Barmera's
Loxton Blue continued
Renmark's form woes
with a six-shot win.
A big victory to John
Vaughan's rink helped Loxton
Blue over the line.
The inclusion of Gerrin
Jenke as leader for Vaughan
proved pivotal in the second
half of the match.
Vaughan landed a five with
scores level after 14 ends and
went on to win comfortably.
Bruce Schubert came from
six shots behind with two ends
remaining to beat Renmark's
David Bollenhagen 21-19.
Sean Leesue and Bill
Dopson were both victorious
However, it was Loxton
Blue's big wins that gave
them the overall victory on
Undefeated Berri defeated
Loxton Yellow by 15
Dennis Treloar won
convincingly for Berri
against Brian Bullock.
Treloar led 16-1 after seven
ends and eventually won 29-
12.Berri's Graham Butt scored
a six at the beginning of his
match with Peter Kimber, but
the Loxton skipper reeled him
in to win by four.
Loxton Yellow's Neil Thiele
picked up two threes and a
five to beat Mark Kubank by
15, while Berri's Andrew Hill
led all the way against Des
Waikerie moved within
reach of the top four with
a 33-shot win over Renmark
Waikerie's Gary Pursche
had a 10-shot victory over Ken
Knight, while Wayne Collins
was in outstanding form in his
35-8 victory over Mal Inglis.

scraped home by two shots
against Dixie Lee, while
John van der Wyst did like-
wise against Waikerie's Roger

Loxton side remain undefeated
Loxton held on to top spot with
a three-shot win over Renmark
in Bowls Riverland Wednesday
pennants this week.
Loxton is still undefeated, but only just
after Renmark took it up to the division
Margaret Schutz and Rae Reichstein
won by two and one shots respectively,
while Bernie Mattner drew her clash with
Renmark's Jocie Cooper in a tight contest
Barmera edged its way up the ladder
with a two-shot win over Renmark
RSL missed a golden opportunity to dis-
tance itself from the bottom three teams.
Gloria Burns and Sheila Lockwood
were victorious for Barmera, while Cathy
Topperwien won her rink for Renmark
Berri moved level with Renmark by
beating Waikerie by 13 shots.
Kerry Treloar and Jan Grosser both
recorded big wins for Berri, with Di
Boehm getting up for Waikerie.

Thriller round of
Top team Loxton RSL had to fight hard to
defeat Bourky's Mob in Riverland Darts on
The scores were locked at 5-5 heading into the
teams game, with Loxton RSL coming out on top.
In the other rounds, Waikerie Club defeated Cobby
This was a surprise score line as Cobby have
picked up a top player in Jeff Broekers.
With this win, Waikerie have taken top spot from
Loxton RSL on percentage.
Meanwhile, Monash Wanderers defeated Barmera
