Dean Peberdy blitzed the field in Saturday's

The Riverland bowling
team won the Carbis Shield
for a fourth successive year
at Barmera on Sunday.
The Riverland won the annual
fixture by 41 shots to continue
its dominance of the event.
Barmera's John Morena,
Renmark RSL's Mal Inglis,
Loxton's Steve Roberts and
Graham Huppatz were all vic-
torious skippers on the day.
However, the Riverland sur-
rendered its hold on the Walsh
Shield, going down by 36 shots
to Sunraysia at Merbein.
Windy conditions made
for close contests in Bowls
Riverland division one Saturday
pennants on the weekend.
Loxton Blue moved into the
top four with a two-shot
win over Loxton RSL.
John Vaughan picked up two
threes and a four in succession
to wrap up a 27-12 win over
RSL's Lew Westbrook.
Loxton Blue's Terry Thurston
came from behind to win by
10.Jade Wright took a whopping
chunk out of Loxton Blue's
lead with a 31-16 win over
David McRae-Wood, while
Steve Roberts beat Vic Pavia
by eight shots.
Loxton Yellow won its first
match of the year, beating
Renmark RSL by two shots.
Neil Thiele had a close game
against Mal Inglis, winning
by a shot, while Peter Kimber
defeated Ron Adam by 10,
despite neither side claiming
more than two shots per end.
Ken Knight had a two-shot
win for RSL, while John van
der Wyst got up by seven, but
it was not enough to overcome
Just 16 shots separated the
teams across four matches.
Mark Kubank returned to
action in Berri's five-shot
win over Waikerie.
Kubank lost his clash 14-17
to Robert Lee after failing to
score until the fifth end.
Berri's Dennis Treloar picked
up a five, four and two threes to
lead his rink to a 24-13 win
over Wayne Collins.
Waikerie's Gary Pursche
came from four shots down at
the break to beat Andy Gapco
by 10, while Andrew Hill
pushed the margin further in
Berri's favour with a 21-14 vic-
tory over Roger Davies.
Renmark stayed in touch
with Berri with a seven-
shot triumph over Barmera.
Barmera's John Morena
scraped in with a one-shot win
over Sean Leesue, with a five at
one end helping him home.
Phil Ashton was also victori-
ous for Barmera, beating John
Thompson by six shots, while
Dennis Wutke easily defeated
Steve Ivanovic by 10.
However, Bill Dopson was
on the money for Renmark,
smashing Ray Kuchel by 24
shots to give his side an overall

Top of the ladder in sight for locals
Loxton's undefeated season
continued in Bowls Riverland
Wednesday division one pennants
with a one-shot win over Berri.
Loxton's win put it within reach of top
team Renmark with a game in hand on
the ladder leader. Dot Vaughan's four-shot
win over Marg Cooper was the catalyst
for the win.
Kerry Treloar kept Berri in the hunt with
a three-shot win over Margaret Schutz, but
a draw between Loxton's Bernie Mattner
and Jan Grosser ensured Loxton took the
Renmark won its fourth match of the
season, beating Lyrup by 19 shots. Sandy
Schulz and Betty Coombs had big wins
for Renmark, while Sue Lloyd got Lyrup
on the board against Jocie Cooper.
Barmera won its first match of the sea-
son, beating Waikerie by 20 shots.
Gloria Burns' 26-12 victory over Jenny
Strauss sealed the win for Barmera,
despite rink victories to Waikerie's Nancy
Teasdale and Di Boehm.

Easy win for RSL
Loxton RSL had a surprisingly easy win
over Cobby Kaos in the Thursday's round
of Riverland darts.
The local side defeated Cobby Kaos 10-
1.In other games, Barmera Odd Bods had a comfort-
able 7-4 win over Barmera Hotel.
Barmera Hotel's players pushed the Odd Bods all
the way in a match expected to be more lopsided.
Monash Wanderers defeated Tanya's Terrors 7-4,
with new player Lisa Robinson playing consistently
Waikerie Club beat Bourky's Mob 6-5 after domi-
nating the early singles.
