Loxton Spring Show exhibitor
People from across the Riverland
and Mallee have entered their
pride and joy -- be it their gardening
prowess, needlework, baking or
creative skills -- in the exhibition hall
over many years.
Each year the recreation centre
is packed with baked goods,
preserves, fruits, vegetables,
photographs, collections, craft
items, artworks, plants and various

Loxton A&H Society president
Barry Mangelsdorf is predicting yet
another outstanding display of local
"A packed show hall full of
exhibits is on the cards again for
this year's show," he said.
"And the best thing is, it's not
too late to enter, people can still
grab a copy of the show book and
work out what sections they'd like
to make entries in."
A big feature of this year's
exhibitions will be the Rich Fruit
Cake Championship and Genoa
Cake Championship semi-finals.
Entries must be received by the
show by 5pm this Friday in order to
qualify for the regional final, with
a first prize of $60 (rich fruit cake)
and $50 (Genoa fruit cake) on offer.
The winner will then progress to
the state final, which will be held at
the 2015 Royal Adelaide Show.
Another tasty contest for the
exhibition hall is the Country
Women's Association Scone Mix
Competition, with winners receiving
$40 for first prize and a shot at the
$200 big prize at the state finals
This year entrants are required to
submit five baked savoury scones.
Mr Mangelsdorf urged budding
bakers to "give it a shot".
"The display we have each year
in our cookery cabinets is the best
of any show I've gone to in SA," he
"What we do here at Loxton
is fantastic, so it'd be wonderful
to see our cabinets packed with
people's cakes and scones.
"These competitions have some
wonderful prize money -- and
opportunities to progress further
-- so there's everything to gain and
nothing to lose by giving it a shot."
Mr Mangelsdorf reminded
exhibitors to be aware of the
daylight saving time change for
the first show day of Sunday. To
accommodate this, conveners
and stewards will be on hand to
accept exhibits at the show hall on
In the meantime, people can
drop off their entry forms and fees
to the show office, which will be
open between 9am to 5pm today,
tomorrow and Friday.
